Into the Light – #writephoto

Into_the_Light

Far, I have traveled
to reach your side
in distance
and years
then
here
now
each step
of my past
once full of life
cast then in shadow
searching for a way
out of darkness
as each turn
brings me
here
now
with
a light
as a sign
welcoming me
as I join your side

Day Twenty-Two of 2016 NaPoWriMo.
Photo provided by Sue Vincent in her Thursday Photo Prompt – Spiral #writephoto.
As I wrote this, I envisioned the final version appearing as a descent followed by an ascent – steps leading down and then up – and that’s how I laid it out on the page as I wrote.Β  I suppose I could call it an orb, but even following the syllable count I used – 5,4,3,2,1,1,1,2,3,4,5,5,4,3,2,1,1,1,2,3,4,5 – (I know, a real headache, right?) doesn’t guarantee it will be anywhere near symmetrical.Β  To show you what I envisioned, I stretched Sue’s photo into a square and layered text over it, to be read counterclockwise… top left – to bottom left – to bottom right – to top right.Β  And you thought this was confusing to begin with!

    • As much as I wanted that the circle to be a part of the poem, I was afraid it would detract from it. However, since it was the inspiration, I think the image is just as important and works well with the shape.

  1. the shape of the hills and valleys of a journey – goes so splendidly with your poem, enhancing what is already a wonderful expression. I just might have to use the form myself πŸ™‚ could call it a “terrain form”
