Downstream

Downstream

Paddle slices
the surface,
kayak glides,
my wake the only
waves visible.

DownstreamCardinal calls.
Turtles bask in
morning sun.
Eagle lands in
towering sycamore.

Heron recedes
downstream, it’s
wings stately
in their slow
steady beat.

Rising.
Falling.
Subject to
season.
Yet, always,
it flows.

Meandering,
as any life does,
river holds all,
and more.

The optional prompt for Day 5 of National Poetry Writing Month/Global Poetry Writing Month at NaPoWriMo 2017 is to write a poem based on a meaningful aspect of the natural world.
