Not So Distant

Not So Distant

All lands in this nation,
remote from the wars fought
in its name, for causes
just and not so,
border on the mountains,
fields and streets of endless
darkness that blood yields,
brings home to us.

This is my response to Jane Dougherty’s A Month with Yeats: Day Fourteen (each day a new Yeats quote).

“That you, in the dim coming times,
May know how my heart went with them
After the red-rose-bordered hem”
W.B. Yeats
