near to heart

near to heart

your fingers through mine
reaching for a city alive

our eyes on the scene
every moment between

then and the first
mostly then

into the night
the lights drawing

our minds to the stars
overhead, what they hold

This is my response to Jane Dougherty’s A Month with Yeats: Day Twenty-Three (each day a new Yeats quote).

“…your hair was bound and wound
About the stars and moon and sun”
W.B. Yeats
